Fire District -5 covers a 35 square mile District and 40 square miles of what is called no-mans land in West central Pend Oreille {pronounced : Ponderay} County with two stations and a dedicated group of volunteer professionals. We have nine pieces of apparatus consisting of two structure engines, one wildland interface engine, one brush unit, one rescue unit, one 4200 gallon tender pumper, one type five brush wasp unitand two command units. We are a volunteer force of eighteen currently. New volunteers are always welcome and we provide training, a volunteer retirement plan, workers comp insurance, firefighting gear and pagers. We are lead by Chief Jay Foster who has forty seven years experience and has been our chief for fourteen years . We are governed by a board of three elected commissioners who oversee the finances. We are one of the only Volunteer departments in the nation that provides fire protection to a military installation.
